Hands-on: YEMA Rallygraf Meca-Quartz II
With the current Rallygraf Meca-Quartz II, YEMA is reissuing one of the most charming motorsport chronographs in the entry-level price range. The three references YMHF1585-AA (Classic Racing School), YMHF1584-AA (Reverse Panda), and YMHF1584-BA (Panda) share the same technical basis, but interpret the theme of “race track on your wrist” in very different ways visually.
Case, proportions, and comfort
All three models feature a 40 mm case made of 316L stainless steel with a height of 11 mm, a 20 mm lug width, and a lug-to-lug width of approximately 47 mm. This gives the Rallygraf a modern, striking yet pleasantly flat look. It fits easily under a cuff and does not appear oversized.
The Classic Racing School YMHF1585-AA stands out with its stainless steel case with a PVD bronze finish – a black tachymeter bezel, dark pushers, and warm gold accents are reminiscent of legendary Formula 1 designs from the 70s and 80s. Reverse Panda and Panda (YMHF1584-AA and YMHF1584-BA) retain the classic steel case, making them more versatile. A double-domed K1 mineral crystal enhances the vintage character, and 100 m water resistance ensures everyday robustness.

Dial & Design: Three faces of the same idea
All Rallygraf models feature a bicompax layout with two subdials, applied indices, a textured dial, and an aluminum tachymeter bezel. The design clearly references the instrument panels of classic race cars—including Super-LumiNova BGW9, which glows in a cool shade in the dark.

YMHF1585-AA: Classic Racing School – Black Gilt Racing
The Classic Racing School Edition features a matte black dial with gold-colored printed elements. The totalizers are reminiscent of old instrument panels, while the striking hands emphasize the motorsport DNA. The combination of a black bezel and bronze-colored PVD finish creates a visually striking design.

YMHF1584-AA: Reverse Panda – Classic racing aesthetics
The YMHF1584-AA “Reverse Panda” is inspired by iconic chronographs from the 60s and 70s: black dial, light-colored totalizers, clear contrasts. The excellent readability and textured surface give the model both depth and authenticity. The steel mesh strap gives it a particularly sporty look and is reminiscent of historic racing chronographs.

YMHF1584-BA: Panda – Bright, friendly, and versatile
The Panda variant YMHF1584-BA features a light-colored dial with dark registers, giving it a more elegant and less utilitarian look. It is suitable for both leisure and business casual wear. Leather creates a warm vintage look, while mesh creates a cleaner, more dressy chronograph.
Movement & operation: Seiko VK64 Meca-Quartz
All three Rallygraf models use the Seiko VK64 Meca-Quartz hybrid caliber: the base time runs on quartz, while the chronograph module functions mechanically. This ensures a smooth chrono seconds hand, defined pressure points, and a fast, mechanical-style “flyback” reset.
In practice, this means high accuracy, very low maintenance, and yet a tactile experience that is much closer to a mechanical chronograph than typical quartz movements.

Bracelets compared: Rally leather vs. steel mesh
The models come standard with a perforated rally leather strap that perfectly matches the motorsport theme. The perforations are reminiscent of driving gloves and also ensure air permeability.
The YMHF1584-AA and YMHF1584-BA models are also available with a steel mesh strap. The flexible 316L steel strap fits comfortably on the wrist, stays cool, and features a finely adjustable clasp with the historic YEMA logo.
Visually, the mesh significantly changes the character:
- The Reverse Panda appears more technical and tool-like.
- The Panda version is sliding towards becoming a dress chronograph.
- It feels lighter and is ideal for warm days.

Everyday use, target group, and conclusion: Which Rallygraf is right for whom?
With a diameter of 40 mm, flat design, water resistance to 100 m, and the robust VK64 caliber, all Rallygraf models are ideal as everyday chronographs. The workmanship is impressive for the price range, and the collection caters to different tastes within the racing aesthetic.
The differences in character:
- YMHF1585-AA Classic Racing School: The most expressive variant for fans of classic motorsport designs.
- YMHF1584-AA Reverse Panda: The most balanced classic – sporty, high-contrast, authentic.
- YMHF1584-BA Panda: The brighter, more elegant option for versatile applications.
Conclusion: With the Rallygraf Meca-Quartz II, YEMA offers a successful blend of vintage charm, modern everyday practicality, and excellent value for money. Three designs, one spirit—racing for your wrist.
