French watchmaking today – diversity, heritage and new impulses
French watchmaking draws on a long industrial tradition, cultural distinctiveness, and a strong understanding of design. The following brands exemplify different chapters of this history – from historical manufactures to pop culture and new mechanical ambitions.
Herbelin – Three generations of French precision
Herbelin was founded in 1947 in the French Jura Mountains and remains family-run to this day. Its geographical proximity to the Swiss border is no coincidence: it allows for a close connection to the watchmaking tradition without simply copying its codes. Herbelin has always pursued its own independent path, characterized by elegance, technical precision, and understated design.

The brand views watchmaking as a long-term project. Collections such as Newport – maritime inspired and technically precise – or Cap Camarat Their more distinctive, integrated design language clearly demonstrates this attitude. With models like the Octagon Herbelin also demonstrates a bold approach to geometry and clear design statements. The watches are created with the aim of being timeless – not trend-driven, but permanently relevant.

Go Mademoiselle – Fashion as an entry into the world of watches
Go Mademoiselle was born from the idea of developing watches specifically for a young, female target group – fashionable, accessible, and emotional. The brand deliberately positions itself outside of classic watchmaking categories and understands timepieces as fashion accessories that reflect moods and personality.

With over 300 regularly updated models, Go Mademoiselle offers variety rather than iconic individual pieces. Colorful straps, decorative elements, and lightweight cases make the watches ideal for spontaneous purchases. The brand's success lies less in technical innovation than in its feel for trends, color palettes, and everyday wearability.

Depancel – Watchmaking from the perspective of motorsport
Depancel was founded by automotive and watch enthusiasts who wanted to create an emotional connection between motorsport and watchmaking. The brand name itself is a declaration: a tribute to Delage, Panhard, and Facel Vega – icons of French automotive history.

This heritage noticeably influences the collections. Series such as Motorsport or R01 They adopt design codes from classic racing cars without lapsing into pure nostalgia. Models like the Allure Mono-Eye Mint Green Depancel demonstrates how color, reduction, and technical displays merge into a modern motorsport reference. It represents a new generation of independent brands that consider emotion, mechanics, and design as equally important.

Kelton – The Clock as a Cultural Phenomenon
Kelton is deeply rooted in French everyday culture. Founded in 1955, the brand became a cultural symbol through its unconventional communication, musical advertising slogans, and widespread mass-market presence. Kelton stood for accessibility and joie de vivre – and consciously broke with elitist watchmaking imagery.

Since its revival in 2020, the brand has built upon this heritage without standing still. Chronographs such as RC24, Chrono Meca or collaborations such as Kelton x Chapal They translate historical motorsport themes into contemporary designs. Heritage line It reflects one's own history – not nostalgically, but consciously reinterpreted.
