40 Years of Niessing Coil – The Icon of the Line

For four decades now, the Niessing Coil has embodied one of the most radical yet poetic concepts in modern jewelry design: the reduction to a single, perfect line.

The Niessing coil follows the contours of the body, draping gently along the natural line of the neck and allowing the pendant to appear unencumbered, with no visible eyelet or technical construction.

This apparent simplicity is, in fact, the result of the utmost precision:
an ultra-fine wire of gold or platinum is drawn, annealed, and finally wound around a transparent core, which gives the piece of jewelry its stability and characteristic “inner glow.”

The result is a piece of jewelry that moves, adapts, and comes to life—a concept that Niessing himself aptly describes as “always in motion.”

Bauhaus DNA – Form follows function

The clean lines of the coil are no accident. They stem from Niessing’s design philosophy, which is strongly influenced by the Bauhaus: minimalism, functionality, and a focus on the essentials.

The coil is thus much more than just a piece of jewelry—it’s a statement.
A simple line that adds nothing, yet says it all.

A stage for what matters most

What makes the Niessing coil so special is its role: it deliberately takes a back seat.

She isn’t the star—the stage is. Pendants appear to float in space, seemingly suspended by no visible means. This illusion of lightness has permanently transformed the way jewelry is worn and established a completely new aesthetic.

From a System to a World of Jewelry

From the very beginning, the cord was designed to serve as a support system—and that is precisely where its strength lies.

Over the years, entire collections have been developed based on this principle, including Colette, Colette C, and modular systems such as Elementyx. They allow for custom combinations, personal stories, and the continuous evolution of the original concept.

The Anniversary – Looking Ahead Instead of Looking Back

On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, Niessing is not looking back nostalgically, but is consistently building on the original concept.

The Coil Wave cord offers a fresh take on the line: a subtle twist, inspired by movement and rhythm, that adds an extra touch of dynamism to the minimalist design.

New pendants—such as the Amatis with a diamond—also embrace the principle of minimalism: the stone takes center stage, while the setting takes a back seat.
