Trend colour of the year 2025: mocha mousse
Pantone has once again chosen its Color of the Year for 2025, which will influence fashion, interior design, packaging and graphic design, and of course, the world of jewelry and watches. Read on to find out how you can leverage this trend.
Comfort and enjoyment
Pantone's Color of the Year, "Mocha Mousse," is a creamy, pastel chocolate dream. For those who don't know, a mocha is a drink made with espresso and hot milk, then finished with chocolate syrup or melted chocolate.
The name derives from the coffee variety "Mocha," whose taste is reminiscent of chocolate. Due to its high milk content, Mocha tastes particularly mild and sweet.
If you have a little marketing experience, then a few associations are probably already coming to mind: enjoyment, coziness, contentment. Simply putting your feet up, leaning back and enjoying a delicious warm drink – ideally in the comfort of your own home on the comfy sofa in the afternoon light.
This is also how Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, explains it:
The search for harmony permeates every aspect of our lives: our relationships, our work, our personal bonds, and the natural environment around us. Harmony not only gives us a sense of contentment, inner peace, and balance, but also the feeling of being in tune with our surroundings. It fosters a culture of connection and unity, as well as the interplay of our emotional, mental, and physical well-being.

Mocha mousse with smoky quartz and brown diamonds
With its understated elegance, Pantone's Color of the Year is very easy to style. Textiles in this color palette are easy to find and look very comfortable and professional, for example in the form of blazers, jackets, or shirts.
But even when it comes to jewelry and watches, a suitable equivalent to the color is quickly found. Brown diamonds, smoky quartz, shimmering sunburst dials, and soft leather watch straps, with their pleasing hues, offer a way to embrace the trend. The beauty of this trend lies in the fact that a single color dictates an entire palette that influences design trends. In nature, and especially with colored gemstones, it is virtually impossible to perfectly match colors. Finding identical gemstone pairs is an art in itself. And ultimately, with precious objects and timepieces, the focus is on enjoyment, not strictness. Therefore, it's perfectly acceptable to be a little "off the mark.".
This means that as a jeweler, you have the opportunity to revitalize existing merchandise with stones from this palette, using the current color trend, and to give watches the popular Mocha Mousse look simply by changing the strap. You can also leverage the associations with coffee or chocolate as a decorative element. Brown, whether bold or pastel, is a versatile and easily combined color. Whether yellow, rose, or white gold – it complements all alloys and can also be paired with gemstones in vibrant colors.

Complementary color „London Blue”„
The easiest way to achieve this, by the way, is with the complementary color. The opposite shade of Mocha Mousse is a cool blue, perhaps best described as steel blue, which pairs beautifully with colored gemstones like London Blue Topaz. Complementary colors are always fashionable; the trend for this is called "color blocking." For style-conscious customers and jewelers, this means double the fun and double the possibilities. Those who like to wear shades of blue are well-advised to choose jewelry in brown tones. Those who prefer to express their style with clothing in the Mocha Mousse palette can enhance their outfit with a cool blue jewelry highlight.
When it comes to watches: if it's not the dial color, the leather strap can also become an eye-catcher, like in the Mocha Mousse style. Watch designs with blue dials are already a popular choice and available from all kinds of manufacturers. Leather and wood are the materials of choice for adapting to this trend – effortlessly and without necessarily having to buy new watches.
